Well, I didn't even make it an hour before something popped up on the news about the Taliban. This one really peeves me.

About 475 prisoners escaped from the Kandahar Jail. I gotta ask, how did Taliban fighters manage to dig a thousand foot tunnel with noone noticing? Obviously being the Kandahar Jail, and not one of the more secure facilities available to the US or Afghan Government, it was under the purview of the Afghan National Police (ANP). I know we're trying to win hearts and minds in Afghanistan, but the ANP are notoriously corrupt. Perhaps ISAF/NATO need to step in with perimeter security oversight to ensure this is less likely to happen again. And the Afghan Government seriously needs to try the insiders who were so light with the cell door keys as traitors, and punish them as such. Please, Pres. Karzai, take the kid gloves off, quit trying to work with those who would do such things, target the corrupt members of your government, and do something about the long term future of your country.
